This remedy is for an
'imposthume' - a collection of purulent matter
or an abscess. It suggests that the sufferer
should "boil some milk: and put it in to a stone
pot with a narrow mouth and hold the sore ear
over the pot while the milk is very hot: this
ease the pain and brack the imposthume".
This remedy comes from
a manuscript course in herbalism dating from
the early 18th century. The volume is held by
the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of
Glasgow
